Metaphysical separatism and epistemological autonomy in Frege’s philosophy and beyond

چکیده
Commentators regularly attribute to Frege realist, idealist, and quietist responses metaphysical questions concerning the abstract objects he calls ‘thoughts’. But despite decades of effort, evidence offered on behalf these attributions remains unconvincing. I argue that deliberately avoids commitment any positions, as part a separatist policy motivated by fact logic is epistemologically autonomous from metaphysics. Frege’s views arguments prove relevant current attempts for epistemological autonomy, particularly ethics.

Case studies suggest that ethnic groups with autonomous institutional arrangements are more prone to secede, but other evidence indicates that autonomy reduces the likelihood of secession. To address this debate, we disaggregate their autonomy status into three categories—currently autonomous, never autonomous, and lost autonomy—and then unpack how each shapes the logic of collective action. متن کاملNatural kinds in evolution and systematics: metaphysical and epistemological considerations.
Despite the traditional focus on metaphysical issues in discussions of natural kinds in biology, epistemological considerations are at least as important. By revisiting the debate as to whether taxa are kinds or individuals, I argue that both accounts are metaphysically compatible, but that one or the other approach can be pragmatically preferable depending on the epistemic context. Recent obje...

15 صفحه اولThe tragic and the metaphysical in philosophy and psychoanalysis.
This article elaborates a claim, first introduced by Wilhelm Dilthey, that metaphysics represents an illusory flight from the tragedy of human finitude. Metaphysics, of which psychoanalytic metapsychologies are a form, transforms the unbearable fragility and transience of all things human into an enduring, permanent, changeless reality, an illusory world of eternal truths. Three "clinical cases...
